Today we shot some footage towards our trailer. This was on location in Brighton on Jew Street. We selected this location beforehand because of it's urban feel that we felt would conform to the nature of noir well. Luke and Seona filmed some shots of David (Mark) walking down the dark alleyways. After this we then moved down towards the pier where we found a staircase next to a streetlamp that cast a great shadow beneath it. We then chose to make this a meeting point between Mark and Hans. This was a successful days filming in order to make some of the more visual elements in our trailer conform to noir conventions.

Today we took some photos ahead of our film poster for 'The Widow's Web'. David was in front of the camera, whilst Seona and Luke were taking the pictures. During Luke's section, David took the photos. There was then a group photo where the camera was set to a timer so we can have one together. As a group we will now proceed to edit these images in photoshop for the poster.
These are the two ideas that we have created as a group for our magazine cover. Luke created the images but the ideas were of the groups. The first is to have an image of our director standing in a tunnel at night. This is to convey the fact that our film is set in an urban environment and conforms to the niche art style of the Sight & Sound publication. The other idea is to have the director standing on a street with the lamppost above his head casting a shadow in front of him. This would convey the fact that our film is Neo-Noir which frequently uses shadows as a genre to illustrate suspense and mystery. We will now as a group try to shoot and edit these images and will update this blog with our progress.
Here is a production management plan of what we need to achieve in the next few weeks regarding our coursework. We will report back on how we progress.
Here is a first draft of what we plan to create for our film poster. The watermark is present because the image is a stock photo. We also intend to add a different background to the actual film- most likely an image of a city (for example London) at night. The character that will be used is Mark Rivers (David) but also have plans to include Rosette as well. More updates to follow.
As a group we came up with these initial designs for our film poster and magazine cover. The magazine cover consists of our director Andrew Wills standing in a street underpass- this is to convey the urban setting that is often found in the Neo-Noir genre.
Then for the film poster we have sketched an image of a close up shot of Mark Rivers with a kiss from Rosette on his cheek. We will have the title of the film below combined with a currently undecided tagline. Now we have created these initial sketches we will need to create a digital draft, before moving onto producing the actual thing. However, this exercise has proved useful as it has given us a clearer idea of what we want to produce as a group. |
